6 Fitness Activities to Keep You and Your Dog Fit

Fitness is important for humans and animals. So, why not make your dog your fitness buddy and have some fun at the same time? Training with your dog has many benefits. It is fun, you get some fresh air, you get to be in nature, you get fit without realising it, you bond with your furry friend, and it is free. If that doesn’t sound like a good deal, we don’t know what does.

Here at Jindo Project, we love our dogs and many of us train with our dogs. We have gathered some information from our team and these are the most popular fitness activities that you can do with your dog.

Walking or Hiking

Going for a walk is a great way to get out of the house and get some exercise. It is low-intensity, but still effective. This is best when your dog is already a bit older or not fit yet. Hiking is also a great idea. However, you should go on walks everyday with your dog before you go hiking. Both of you will need to build the stamina and endurance for hiking.

Running

If your dog is up for it, try running. Running has many health benefits for you both and is a great way to get the heart pumping. Again, you should make your dog used to running before going long distance.

Playing Fetch and Tug-o-war

Playing with your dog is also a great way to get exercise for you both. Throwing and wrestling and tug-o-war make you use your core and other muscles. It’s like being at the gym, but a lot more fun. You can also pay attention to the muscles you want to exercise when playing with your dog. Make his play time your train time.

Swimming

Swimming is very good exercise for joints. This is a good idea if your dog has joint pain. Water is relaxing and weightless and this helps to get the joints moving without being painful. Swimming, in general, is also very good exercise and you can play games and have fun while getting some exercise.

Doga

Yes, doggie yoga is a real thing. This new thing is yoga for both human and dog and it incorporates the dog in the exercises. It is said to be a lot of fun. If you’re not sure whether there is a Doga group near you, ask your vet or local dog walkers.

Doggy Weight Exercises

You will find many examples of people exercising with their dogs as weights. This is a fun way to exercise for you both and your dog will see it as playing. This is obviously a method that is better suited for smaller or medium-sized dogs.

If you’re like us, your dog is your best friend. We love the idea of making our dogs fitness buddies and ensuring that we both stay healthy. For more opportunities to get fit with your dog, visit the EVENTS page.
